300 Sequel?

Posted in Comic Books, Movies with tags , , , , on June 27, 2008 by entertainmentmagic

Well, I suppose we should have seen this coming. 300 we be the next film to enter the sequel factory, we get wind of this peculiar news from our friends at comics2film:

Reporting from the 34th Annual Saturn Awards, Collider.com talked to Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari and Bernie Goldmann, the producers of ‘300′.

“We’re looking for another ‘300′ and we’re looking for Frank Miller and Zack [Snyder] to do thier thing. We’ve had obviously, around the world, such an amazing journey,” Canton said. “It keeps on going.”

I loved 300 and am disappointed by this news. The story was a one off and should be left as such. I am all for the same crew making more Spartan films and/or sword and sandal pictures, but there is no need to have the film associated with 300 in any way shape or form. Few things in life bother me more than sequels that should not be.

Wall-E Still Holding 98% on Rotten Tomatoes

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on June 26, 2008 by entertainmentmagic

So you want to go see a movie this weekend but you are not sure what to see. The guys around the watercooler are talking about this Wall-E film that is supposed to be pretty good, so maybe I will see that. Its a Pixar movie so you know it will be good for the kids. They get amused watching skittles thrown in the air.

Film says:

What movie should you see this weekend? Wanted is surprisingly good, and will likely beat your expectations. I can honestly recommend it… but the clear winner is WALL-E.

So far the little robot that could has a 98% tomatoemeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes with over 40 reviews. Actually, only one reviewer gave a negative critique.

But you better get their early so you can get yourself a good seat.

Or go to the really late showing so you don’t have to listen to that kid whine that his bladder is the size of an acorn and he cried til you gave him a pop that weights half as much as he does.

Review of the Love Guru

Posted in Movies with tags , , , on June 25, 2008 by entertainmentmagic

Right up front I’ll let you know that I simply LOVE Mike Myers. And when first word came that he was involved in a new live action movie since 5 years ago it was time for a comeback and I thought that the premise of this movie sounded terrific, but as the trailers came out I was a little skeptical.

Main Idea
Austin Powers trilogy star Mike Myers collaborates with writer Graham Gordy for this comedy concerning a self-help guru named Pitka (Myers), who devotes his life to unknotting the romantic entanglements of troubled couples. As a young child, Pitka is abandoned at the gates of an ashram in India and taken in by kindly gurus. An American by birth, Pitka absorbs the lessons taught to him by his teachers and later returns to the United States to become a leading authority on spirituality and self-help. While Pitka’s methods are decidedly unorthodox, they may be the only means of ensuring that the Toronto Maple Leafs win the coveted Stanley Cup. The Maple Leaf’s star Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) is in trouble. His estranged wife has recently begun dating L.A. Kings star Jacques Grande (Justin Timberlake) in a vengeful effort to send her husband’s career into a tailspin, and when Roanoke starts to falter on the ice, the whole team starts to suffer. As their visions of leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Stanley Cup are quickly going up in flames, team owner Jane Bullard (Jessica Alba) and Coach Cherkov (Verne Troyer) enlist the aid of the world’s best-known relationship expert in restoring the peace between Roanoke and his wife, and getting their team back on the track to the championships.”

The Good

1) I never expected to laugh during this film at all. But there are some belly gut laughing jokes.
2) I really respect Mike Meyers idea for the Maple Leafs. He is a die hard fan and so he really did this movie for himself.
3) There were some good cameos. Which include Steven Colbert and Kanye West.

The Bad
1) Could have been funnier. Sure there some laughs but not enough to fill the shoes of Austin Powers
2) Jessica Alba. First off everything I’ve seen her in was terrible and this movie doesn’t change that fact

In the End
To me it was a poor man’s Austin Powers and even with a few laughs it wasn’t enough. And at the end of the movie you cant help but think why he didn’t do Austin Powers 4. I give it a 5.5/10
