Rumor Apple To Release New iPhone July 17

The folks over at AppleiPhoneApps say they received their server-meltdown-enducing information from a source, “closely connected to Apple’s hardware development team,” so as always, get the saltshaker ready. While we’ve been hearing about some of these specs for some time, the more cosmetic changes (illuminating Apple logo, rubber-tread backing, etc.) are fairly new. As is the release date, which the source alleges will be July 17.

Here’s the full list:

•    32GB and 16GB to replace current capacities
•    $199 and $299 price-points to be maintained
•    3.2 Megapixel camera
•    Video recording & editing capabilities
•    Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
•    Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
•    OLED screen
•    1.5X The battery life
•    Double the RAM and processing power
•    Built-in FM transmitter
•    Apple logo on the back to light up
•    Rubber-tread backing
•    Sleeker design
•    Built-in compass
•    Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations.
•    Turn by turn directions

AppleiPhoneApps also has a detailed breakdown of all the specs if you feel like exercising your speculation muscles.

As Wired points out, the inclusion of OLED screen will most certainly kick up production costs and presumably the phone’s price tag, even though analysts have said that new iPhones carry about one-third the production cost of what they used to, which was one of the main reasons AT&T and Apple were supposedly considering lowering service plan prices.
