Red Dead Redemption,Mafia 2 being delayed by Take-Two

It’s going to be a little while longer before we’re playing Red Dead Redemption or Mafia II. Take-Two Interactive announced today that both games have been delayed into the first half of the company’s fiscal year 2010 — in other words, they’re now scheduled for between November 2009 and April 2010.

“We have a pretty firm policy at Take-Two about [not releasing a game] before its time,” said Take-Two CEO Ben Feder on an investor call today. “If the development cycle requires more time — we’re highly dedicated to quality — we’ll give it the time it needs. … We simply just wanted to make sure that [we] had the right level of gravitas behind the games. We know that Christmas is a competitive season, but most of what’s driving all of this is making sure the game is developed in the right quality and in the right way.”

More development time should produce better games. As much as I want to play Red Dead Redemption, waiting isn’t the end of the world, either. Hopefully Call of Juarez will fulfill my need for a decent western in the meantime!
