 'Rolling Stone: Drum King' Game

Rolling Stone is getting into the gaming business. The mag has teamed up with 505 Games and lent its good name to Rolling Stone: Drum King for the Wii, because, presumably, there are not enough music games on the market.

The game allows you to use your Wiimote and Nunchuk to lay down the rhythms on 30 popular tracks from a variety of musicians and groups, and customize and create a drummer avatar. Drum King features single-player mode and local head-to-head mode.

The game comes out this spring exclusively for the Wii. So, what do you say, Ringo? You going to check out this game, or leave it to other would-be drummers? The full track list is below the cut. Continue reading

Led Zeppelin says no to music games

Posted in music, Video games with tags , , , , , , on July 7, 2008 by trevdog54

We’ve been wanting to impersonate Led Zeppelin in a videogame since the release of Guitar Hero. But it looks like it’s never going to happen.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Jimmy Page, and his bandmates have repeatedly turned down offers from both Activision and MTV to use their tunes in either Rock Band or Guitar Hero music games. The band isn’t “comfortable with the prospect of granting outsiders access to its master tapes.” “It ain’t about the money,” says Led Zep manager Peter Mensch.

More interesting info from the Wall Street Journal: These bands are all in talks to have content included in music games (either Rock Band or Guitar Hero):

  • Van Halen,
  • the Eagles,
  • Steely Dan
  • Guns N’ Roses

What games their music will be available in hasn’t been announced, nor has whether a band-specific games are coming from these groups been determined, but it’s fun to imagine what Guitar Hero: Steely Dan would be like.
